Torturing Toys!

Its been a hair pulling out journey at times this whole CE malarky. But I'm there! I've done it! Wohoo!! Time for some well earnt celebrating!!

My local TS officer came today to inspect my files. He's been really helpful todate, pointing me in the right direction of legislation etc.

I've had some head banging moments, and I am sure there might be more to come, but its done. Toys dully burnt, pulled, poked and prodded!! I've put in some pics of my torturing :o( Poor chickie....

virgin for slaughter!

X marks the spot!

roasted chick anyone?!

some eye poking!

Our take on a push me pull you!
Luckily hubby is an engineery type and we had lots of torture impliments already. I would have struggled without him as I did ok at interpreting the legislation but application is not my bag!

So anyway, the moral of the story is....it was tricky, but its done, I'm as legit as can be!

Slugs & Lettuce!

Well the arrival of spring (well I do have snowdrops outside flowering!) brings forth new life and for me this year I want to plant up the garden full of yummy things to eat.

But obviously theres the issue of those pesky slugs....below are some combos of slugs and lettuces that are less squishy and much more pleasant to look at!!

Fit for a Prince!!! (And a good stash buster too!)

Ta da!!! So shh as these are birthday gifts for two little men that I know.

I wanted to try and keep to handmade for gifts this year, and also being a little skint, I turned to 'what I know best'. Sewing...

I have accumulated a HUGE bag of fabric scraps from my sewing endeavours over the last year and have been reluctant to throw them away.

I had also started looking at crowns to take part in my dressing up range and was thinking about boys as well. They are often overlooked I think.

So .... sew..... a crazy patchwork crown!!! It has an elasticated back so will fit the little lads for a while. Perfect for looking like a little prince whilst blowing out the candles, and also good for dressing up games to come!

I'm planning on trying to rid myself of my fabric scraps...so more of these coming soon....and hopefully will make it to my folksy shop. Let me know what you think???!!!!

Mend & Make Do! Fixing the hole in my jeans

Well my poor old jeans (albeit my fav) were destined for the bin as everytime I went to put them on, my feet pretty much came out through the knees! oppps! I was getting a bit sad as I wanted to save them. I had finally lost enough weight last year to get my bum in them, and wasn't going to let them go without a fight!

So, I decided to try fixing them with the help of a really old pair of jeans, some iron-on bondaweb type stuff (whats it really called?) and my bigshot. OOO very exciting!
So this is the hole and it ironed closed. (the wrong way round, but you get the gist!)

It didn't look so bad ironed closed, but the fabric had really thinned down, so I knew I needed a biggish patch. There was a smaller hole on the other leg, but again the denim had really skinnied out. I chopped off a legs from my old maternity jeans thas had seen some better days, ironed them flat and ironed on some bondaweb stuff. I cut the demin into panels so it would fit into my bigshot...and result....lots of stars!

I then put each star through the sewing machine to add some embellishment detail, mostly some basic stitches to add some colour.

I lay out the stars over the holes and ironed the stars together. I did this on greaseproof paper so I could peal them off again. I zigzaged the stars together to reinforce the bondaweb. I didn't want them falling off after a wash!

I ironed the whole patch onto each leg really well.

And now was faced with the impossible task of sewing them onto my jeans...hmm it was worth a shot on my sewing machine (rather than hand sew!), tho god alone knows how I managed to get each leg onto the sewing machine arm bit. But ta da!!! I managed to do it in the end, although cursing and spitting were threatened...

So today I took the bairns to nursery in my jeans which no longer looked like some raggedy baggedy item. Hope you like them and this might inspire you to mend and make do!

Its the new year...some spring cleaning!!!

I've been a little slow with my blogging for 2011, but I have been finishing my first 2011 commission

Large image

A pink blanket similar to hues of one made previously but sold over christmas. Now this is out of the way I can focus on some essential things I need to do.

I'm working of CE certificates for all my toys and that should be complete fairly soon now. Then working on some new product lines of dresses, toys and stocking some online companies with my toy basket. I also maybe have lined up a wedding fair to take some of my bridesmaids dress commissions for later this year....scary new ventures. I took the decision not to book in any fairs in the early part of this year so I can work on the new lines and try and be more organised...

So, keep an eye out as I bring in new ranges and products!

Happy New Year to you all!
